A LUXURY HOTEL AND RESIDENCES: ST. REGIS ARRIVES IN MARBELLA

A century after it opened on Fifth Avenue, St. Regis is coming to the Costa del Sol. A €500 million resort on the sand in Marbella East that will bring jobs, investment and a new standard of excellence to the whole city.

Every evening, as the sun goes down, in more than 60 hotels around the world, a butler lifts a blade, runs it along the neck of a Champagne bottle and, with one clean stroke, marks the moment day turns into night. It is a ritual born in New York more than a hundred years ago. From early 2031, it will have a new stage: the shoreline of Marbella.

St. Regis, the most storied luxury brand in the Marriott International family, has confirmed its first resort on the Spanish mainland. A hotel of 169 rooms and suites and 151 branded residences, set on more than 160,000 m² of beachfront in Las Dunas, Marbella East.

So, what exactly is St. Regis?

It began on Fifth Avenue. On 4 September 1904, Colonel John Jacob Astor IV, one of the wealthiest men of his time, opened The St. Regis New York: marble floors, crystal chandeliers and, a rarity in 1904, a telephone in every room. The New York Times called it "the finest hotel in America".

His idea was to bring old-world grace to the new world, with the warmth of a private home. The rituals followed: Caroline Astor's afternoon tea, the evening Champagne sabrage and, in 1934 at the King Cole Bar, the Bloody Mary, first served as the Red Snapper. Above all, the St. Regis Butler, who knows how you like things before you ask.

That is the St. Regis promise. To make it always better.

Who is behind it?

Today, St. Regis belongs to Marriott International, with more than 60 hotels and resorts from Aspen to Bora Bora. In Spain there has only been one, in Mallorca. Marbella will be the first on the Spanish mainland.

Architecture and interiors come from New York's Rockwell Group, founded by David Rockwell in 1984: the studio behind Nobu restaurants worldwide and The St. Regis Residences in Miami, working here with the Spanish practice AGAS. And a nice detail: the project was first planned as a W hotel, then raised to St. Regis.

The plan is for 169 rooms and suites and 151 branded residences, spread across more than 160,000 m² of beachfront in Las Dunas, Marbella East. The homes range from two to five bedrooms and from 150 to 1,000 m². Residents will have their own entrance, apart from the hotel lobby, but full use of everything the hotel offers: restaurants, a spa, sports facilities, pools and a beach club under the St. Regis name.

The investment comes to around €500 million. Work begins this year and, if all goes to plan, the first guests will arrive in early 2031, on what is today one of the best-preserved stretches of beach in Marbella.

Why Marbella?

Because the world is already here. Marbella is now a year-round home for international families and the most demanding buyers. Four Seasons and Waldorf Astoria are on their way too.

Because Marbella East is where you go to feel the beach never ends, with only the sea and the calm for company. It has long been Marbella's official place to switch off. Now, the whole world will know its name.

What does it mean for Marbella?

Beyond the figures, a house like St. Regis is a school, training butlers, chefs and sommeliers to world standards in their own city. Its guests come in every season, filling restaurants, golf courses and shops. And when a name like this arrives, the bar rises for everyone, along with the long-term value of every home in Marbella.

A toast to 2031

Picture a winter evening in 2031: the Mediterranean turning gold, a butler on the terrace, one clean stroke of the saber. Marbella has always known how to welcome the world. Now one of its great names has decided to make it home.
